Finding a stable job that pays a decent wage can be extremely difficult, even for the most qualified applicants. However, finding employment with minimal job experience, a lack of marketable skills, or a criminal record can seem impossible. Through CAA’s Workforce Development programs, individuals who experience these barriers to employment can receive the education, training, and assistance they need to earn a decent wage.
Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) Services: CAA provides classes to help adults enhance their basic academic skills such as reading, writing, and math. Each participant’s course of study is customized based on the individual’s academic strengths and on the areas in which they need improvement.
GED Preparation Services: CAA can help individuals enrolled in the ABLE classes to work towards their GED or high school Graduation Equivalency Diploma. Having a GED opens doors to employment, vocational training, and college. Participants in the GED program follow a specialized course of study, based on their individual needs and specifically geared towards passing the GED test. GED practice tests are also available. When participants are ready, CAA will even assist individuals in making the arrangements necessary to take the test, including scheduling and transportation.
In addition to other criteria, to be eligible to participate in CAA’s ABLE or GED programs, individuals must:
- Be a resident of Hamilton County; and
- Be 18 years of age. Sixteen and Seventeen year-olds may participate if they have officially withdrawn from high school and have an Age and School Certificate (work permit).
CAA’s ABLE and GED classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Classes run during the regular school year only, approximately following the Cincinnati Public School System’s schedule of holidays and summer break.

CAA provides free basic and intermediate computer training classes in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Traditional instructor/student classes are available, in addition to our unique online classes. Through these classes, participants can enhance their current computer skills or gain new skills in order to improve their career opportunities.
Online computer classes will provide students with the benefits of both online learning and traditional classrooms. Online classes will take place in the CAA computer lab. However, an instructor will be available to answer any questions. These online classes will provide students with an opportunity to learn computer skills at their own pace and will also allow for individualized instruction.
In addition to other criteria, to be eligible to participate in CAA’s Computer Training Program, individuals must:
- Be a resident of Hamilton County;
- Be 18 years of age; and
- Earn an income that is at or below 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
