Youth Services Director Receives Youth Advocate Award

February 19, 2014 - Congratulations go out to CAA’s Youth Services Director Shawn Kerley.  Shawn recently received the Southwest Ohio Region Workforce Investment Board’s 2014 Super Award that recognizes employers and labor organizations for their commitment to putting more people back to work. Shawn won in the category of Youth Advocates. Mayor John Cranley kicked off the ceremony on February 13 at the SWORWIB’s annual (continues here) meeting at the SuperJobs center. Shawn was presented with an impressive award that he proudly holds.

Judges recognized Shawn for having had a profound impact on the life of one of the youth enrolled in Jobs for Cincinnati graduates last year at West High. Cortez Adams, then a senior told how Shawn mentored him, helped him apply to colleges and helped him get a scholarship. Cortez got a full-ride football scholarship to Texas College. Shawn took time to drive him to Tyler, Texas last August to get him settled. The relationship hasn’t stopped there – they talk every night. Shawn says, "He’s like my son." Once again congratulations to CAA’s Shawn Kerley for going above and beyond to help a young person succeed in life.
